چکیده

The eccentricity lowering problem is to reduce the eccentricity of a communication network within a given bound, by upgrading some nodes (i.e., shrinking the lengths of the edges linking to such nodes), where we want to minimize the required cost. We consider two types of node-upgrading strategies; i.e., the continuous upgrading and the discrete upgrading, where the improvement under the first strategy is a continuous variable, and the improvement under the second strategy is a fixed amount. These problems are NP-hard for the general graph. When the graph is a tree, we present an O(|V |) time algorithm to solve the eccentricity lowering problem under the continuous upgrading strategy. However, the problem under the discrete upgrading strategy is still NP-hard even if the graph is a line.

Upgrading trees under diameter and budget constraints

Given a tree T (V, E) endowed with a length function l and a cost function c, the diameter lowering problem consists in finding the reals 0 ≤ x(e) ≤ l(e), e E such that the tree obtained from T by decreasing the length of every edge e by x(e) units has a minimal diameter subject to the constraint ¥e Ec(e)x(e) ≤ B, where B is the available budget (analogously, one can minimize the cost of loweri...

Automatic QoS-aware Web Services Composition based on Set-Cover Problem

By definition, web-services composition works on developing merely optimum coordination among a number of available web-services to provide a new composed web-service intended to satisfy some users requirements for which a single web service is not (good) enough. In this article, the formulation of the automatic web-services composition is proposed as several set-cover problems and an approxima...

Limit distribution of the degrees in scaled attachment random recursive trees

We study the limiting distribution of the degree of a given node in a scaled attachment random recursive tree, a generalized random recursive tree, which is introduced by Devroye et. al (2011). In a scaled attachment random recursive tree, every node $i$ is attached to the node labeled $lfloor iX_i floor$ where $X_0$, $ldots$ , $X_n$ is a sequence of i.i.d. random variables, with support in [0,...
